Shortly after I was flagged during a school scoliosis screening, I visited a doctor who told me that I did have scolisois, but that my curve was mild and I didn’t need to wear a brace or start any other treatment yet. A few months later, I returned to the doctor for a check up and the updated X-ray revealed that my curve had progressed much more rapidly than expected. This forced us into a rushed phase of trying to find a new doctor and deciding what the best course of treatment would be for my situation. Throughout this process, I felt inexperienced, alone and confused and I wished that I could get advice from others in the same situation. I wished I could commiserate with others facing similar struggles. There were so many questions whirling around in my head: physical therapy? possible surgery? which type of brace? am I supposed to  hide the brace? These feelings inspired me to create an online scoliosis community. Cyberscoli is a place where anyone, regardless of where they live or how severe their scoliosis is, can participate and feel comforted by our supportive community. We have a regular VSG (virtual support group) via Instagram Live and a mentoring program where we pair new members with volunteers who have scoliosis experience. Please join us as a member, as a volunteer or as both!
